Our skin is crucial to our interaction with the world around us. It is a strong and resilient organ, one that constantly protects our bodies, whilst being acutely sensitive to outside factors including UV rays emitted from the sun. In Scotland, sunscreen is referred to as ‘sun-tan lotion’ and it is widely believed that if you burn you will tan better later. In Australia, during summer months constant health adverts warn about the risks of developing melanoma or skin cancer and advise constant application of sunscreen. This project explores some aspects of this human relationship with the sun.
